I took the advice of this forum and I drilled a couple of test holes part way into the transom looking for rot. The shavings came out dry but they were very dark colored. I was hoping they would be white in color but at least they were dry. The wood on the surface of the holes were soft, which I knew from my external test, however, the inside of the holes were solid. What do you guys think?

Re: Transom Test

i would keep an eye on it. the dark color could be from the resin penetration. also could be from old water intrusion.

Re: Transom Test

If your transom is basicly the same thickness, use a rubber mallet and knock on it in several locations.
When removing the wood from my project boat, I found much rot and the bottom 1/3 was water logged.
