Transom Saver question

Greetings,

Without opening the whole discussion about transom savers again, I have a question.

In photos, people seem to use transom savers in both the motor "full up" and motor "full down" positions. Which is correct?

My rig is a 1961 14' aluminum, and I recently upgraded from the original engine & cable steering to a newer Merc and pinion steering - then I discovered I could no longer remove the engine for travel. It only took one short trip to make the decision to install a TS.

Thanks for the advice,
/Kris

Re: Transom Saver question

the determining factor is ground clearance of the lower unit of the motor. i had one boat that the lower hit the ground, with the trailer lever. thus, it had to be towed with the motor up. recommended is atleast 12 inches of the road surface. if you go down rutted dirt roads you want it higher.
