Hello all,
I have to replace the transom in my 66 Larson All American. It is completely rotten, and it has holes on both sides of the fiberglass. Previous owner plated it with aluminum plates on both sides. Its my first boat, didnt realize what I was looking at...glad I got two season out of it. In retrospect, and knowing what I know now, I cant believe them motor didnt fall off.

Over searched he forum internally, and with google, and non of the threads on transom replacement as it pertains to a Larson are available for viewing.

Does anyone have an instructible on replacing a transom in a 66 Larson All American?
Thank you,

make and model have little to do with transom replacement.

get into the restoration forum and read as many examples you can

or get into the make specific forums and pick a similar boat.

the process will be the same.

agree, look in the hull restoration forum.

replacing the transom from the outside is 10X harder than from the inside, considering you still have stringers to replace.

Youtube has lots of videos on the subject. Look for one on "replacing the transom from the outside. The hardest part is digging out the old residue around the perimeterof the transom.

When I did mine this year, I did it from the outside. I used 1-1/2oz matt on the inside and between the two 3/4 inch plywood sheets. I then used 4 layers of 10 oz cloth on the outside, plus 1 more layer over the lower seam. it took about 2 gal of polyester laminating resin, 2 qts of poly putty, and one coat of waxed gel coat.

I think the key item you need is some structure to attach the plywood to on the inside. I used a 2X4 on edge below the splashwell, from gunwale to gunwale and a 2x2 on the deck from gunwale to gunwale. I was able to screw the new plywood to these, and clamp it at the top. All the wood was glassed and screwed in. All fasteners were stainless steel.
