Can I replace this transom without pulling the cap? I would really like it if I don't have to pull it.

Well.. It looks like your on your stringer and foam system too ..

More pics over all would be great.

Your trans is not totaly rotted out IMO .. but what about them stringers ?

Personally for an outboard this trans tabbin is weak ( from your pics ).

Hi YD - We are going to do stringers and floor too. The whole bilge areas is rotten - it is radiating out from the motor mounts. As the pictures show, it is far worse on the starboard side. The stringers more forward around the gas tank look good, but I need to do some more digging to know for sure - the gas tank comes out this weekend and hopefully some of the transom wood too. We contemplated doing a partial transom, since a good chunck of it is solid, but all-in-all, I'd rather just do it once - so I think we'll do the whole thing. I am planning to use Woodonglass plans for putting the new transom in - it will be better than what came from the factory I think. They hadn't even glassed the transom below the deck - I couldn't believe it. I am not sure how well I can tab the top with the cap on - I am willing to try, but not sure if it is the right thing to do or not. I would really appreciate any advice you have to give.

We have a full resto thread started with more pictures here as well: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=577752

I am still not sure how far forward we'll go with the floor replacement, but the more I'm in there working, the more I think we'll end up doing the whole thing including the bow seats - so that I know it is all done right. It is an internal argument - get on the water as quickly as possible versus get the job done correctly and completely.

From everything I see, you have all the room you need to do the transom. No need to de-cap IMHO.
