I have replaced the transom on my 1997 lund rebel, now to put the hardware back together. I ordered a new cap for the transom from the dealer. I assumed it would already be bent and fit for my boat, it came just a straight piece of channeled aluminum. My question is how should bend it to fit my transom. Maybe just lay it over and use a mallet? Anyone with any experience in this?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks, Shaun

Re: transom repair

I am assuming it is aluminium and in a "c" formation....Just banging it with a mallet will bend it but not correctly. You will need to maintain the width of the channel while bending it. It will be a slow bending process but a small fixture will need to be made that will entrap the width of the channel material while it is being bent. Hardwood blocks will work or if you have machining skills one can be made from steel, brass or hard aluminium. Perhaps a visit to your local machine shop may be in order, if they work with metal on a regular basis they should be able to help you out for not alot of money. I am shocked that the piece was not prebent from Lund for your particular model. You may want to talk to your dealer or Lund factory personel, I know I would...............
