I have a 14 ft Lowe flat bottom and just recently bought a 4 stroke 25 hp mercuy motor.
The question i have is how can i strenthen the transom, the motor is a bit heavier than the one that i had on it and i don't want this new motor to be sank in the bottom of the lake. The transom has a 2x8 across it, how can i strenghthen it, i can see it slightly flex if i bounce the motor just the least bit.

Re: transom question

I'm not sure how thick transoms typically are on smaller boats. On larger ones, they are usually two sheets of 3/4" plywood sandwiched together and are quite strong. I'd much rather see you replace the core (the wood) with new/stronger material, then try to do something to beef up the existing one.
