Transom question on 87 tracker

I am fixing to start a transom replacement on my 87 Tracker. It appears that the only way to remove the old transom wood is by cutting the welds on the two back corners. Now the cap in the center looks fairly simple, just drill out the rivets and remove all screws and bolts, but it seems a bit extreme to have to cut the welds on the corners and pry them out of the way. Is this the correct way or not.
If I am supposed to cut the corner welds, then would a small MIG welder with aluminum wire be the way to weld it back?
Thanks for all reply's.......

I think you need to just sart drilling out the rivits and see what happens. Sometimes its put together a little different than it looks like from the outside.

Sounds like a plan. Cant start the transom until I get done with a rear main seal and total brake replacement on a 87 Ford Bronco 4x4....fun fun fun
Thanks......

Riverrat17,

Just read your post on replacing a transom. I need to replace the transom wood on an 89 tracker. What did you end up doing about the welds on the two back corners? Is there a way to replace the transom without cutting welds?
