correct me if i am wrong. i should not use treated ply in my transom because it will not soak up the resin very well.i cannot buy marine ply around here, so should i just use regular outdoor ply and seal it well with cloth and resin ?

Re: transom plywood

outdoor ply is treated.

you mean regular indoor ply.

I'd prefer PT sealed or order marine.

Re: transom plywood

Hi Greasemonkeyjmj,

Not sure what "treated" means... But if you can't get marine ply, use AC ply (AC uses waterproof glue for the plies). Just be sure to fill all voids on on the "C" sides of all sheets with thickened epoxy goo. AC has one good face, and no voids in the middle.

Re: transom plywood

pressure treated plywood will take resin very well ....when its dry.....
when you buy it....its wet......it takes a month in good conditions to dry it....so if time is a factor....use marine or exterior grade ply....even that needs to be dyred for about a week or so.

pressuer treated plywood also has issues with some metals like aluminum....if its going any where near alum....forget it.....

reguardless of what wood you choose.....seal it with fiberglass

cheers

Re: transom plywood

pressure treat plywood is chemically treated to resists, wood destroying organisms, termites, mold, etc. exterior grade is made for outside use. as siding, dog houses, roofing sub layer. moisture areas. never use pressure treated in an aluminum boat. the chemical is caustic to metal.

i always use exterior plywood, stringers, transom, seats. sealed properly it will last as long as the rest.
