I am doing a complete restoration of 1991 sea ray 160. this weekend i took the motor off removed the rubrail, and currently have a 2x4 between the top and bottom at the front. my prob is i have lots of a very hard glue between the spashwell(top) and transom(bottom). my question is how do i get the substance off with little working area under the swim deck. please help with any suggestions. i want to start rebuilding one of these days.

will hopefully have new pics tonight.

http://home.bresnan.net/~1991searay160

I had the same problem when I was seperating my top from bottom. A large chisel, a hammer, a prybar, and a fair amount of cussing broke it loose.

Nope. The clamping force of the outboard is more than sufficient, but if you really want to, you could whip up some 2 part thickened epoxy. I didn't do mine just on the off chance I may want to take the top off again I wouldn't damage the transom.

did you ruin the transom when you prybared and cussed it apart. the part i am most worried about is the lip on the top for the motor it doesnt seem to be too thick on the topside.
