I am restoring a 1976 14 foot Jon Boat.
I am replacing a new transom but there is no elbow in the bottom of the boat.
I am looking for fabrication ideas.
The aluminum seams a bit flimsy on the back of the boat.
any suggestions would highly be appreciated.

there should be a wood transom on the aluminum skin.

Correct but there is no elbow brace to connect the wood transom to.
it does not appear there was ever an elbow brace in this boat model as there are no rivet holes in the aluminum where the transom elbow brace should be located.

Transom knee brace, not elbow

if theres never been 1, using the correctly sized (length, width and thickness) plywood transom and correct sized ob, shouldnt require a brace....

That’s what I was leaning on.
Thank you for the input.
I had considered adding one to reinforce the transom to go up in horsepower but I had thought the weight might impede the structural integrity of the boat.
I have seen this done by a few people using a 4x6 braced to the backseat and also done with angle iron.
I had considered bracing the transom with bins for storage as well but my thinking tells me the weight will bog the back of the boat down.
Thank you for catching the (elbow)comment as my knee bone was connected to my elbow bone....lol
I don’t think too many models were made without a knee brace to my knowledge through the history of aluminum boats.
