Transom Cracks....

Hey guys,

I think I have bad news for myself. Found 2 cracks in the transom right above the bolts for the stern brackets for the motor. They are pretty much right above the bolts and I feel like if I tighten the bolts anymore they split wider. Any way to solve this without cutting out the whole transom?? Ty each and all.

Re: Transom Cracks....

Dark here now, but they were about 1" long, like a hairline fracture right above where the bolts for the motor mounts hook up to the transom. I went out and got some fibreglass repair, sanded the area down then trowelled on a decent size coat along the edge to bond it together. Tomorrow Ill sand it down and paint it. Hopefully this will hold, I get my newer rig next summer and only need this one to last a few more weeks, lol. Would as better fix be to bend a piece of thick sheet metal into a sort of U shape and slide it down over the transom, drilling holes where the bolts are? Ty

Pull one of the bolts out and check the wood (or material) in between the fiberglass. My story is similar to this, but come to find out, I need a transrom repair. Rotten wood.
