Re: Transom Clean Out
If the transom is 2 inches wide start by using a 1 1/2 inch wood spade drill, get a long extention for it and start boring down to the hull,
leave a half inch space between holes.
Clean it all out with the chainsaw,
I used a sears elec chainsaw and it worked great.
The spade drill with 2 long extentions coupled together will reach all the way into the corners.
The drill and chainsaw will not harm the glasswork unless you are both deaf and stupid.
The back wall of my transom fell apart during the process so I cut a new one from 1/2" ply, pre-glassed it both sides with mat and poly , glassed it in place and poured the transom, I left the back wall in there. My transom is now almost 3 inches thick. Bet I could install a bigger engine now.
Needless to say its SOLID, when I see people saying you can tell by banging on the transom with a rubber mallet, I say baloney. They all sound solid even when filled with wet mush. I can tell the difference now but it sounded good to me before.
