I started the demolition of my 1989 Bayliner Capri and when I removed the gimbal housing I found that the hull was damaged. I had planned on replacing the transom but now I am not sure that it is worth it. The bolt holes are cracked all the way to the inside of the keyhole. Is it time to get in the market and part this one out?

I suspect that it is going to be more involved then you'd hoped , but I doubt it's beyond repair. Spend some time, search the forum. The info you need is there, you just need to do some reading, a lot of reading.

Try oops hull stretching thread, there's an index on page 1.

Don S made a sticky of helpful info

Good luck w/ your project

YD ??

Re: Transom Beyond Repair?

hi......you were gonna replace the transom any how.

the hull repair is just an extra step....only 2 hours labor more.

not sure why YD sugtessted to scrap it....

that does not look like an omc.....

if it is......flip a coin.....if its not.....go for it....

we will walk you right thru it......the repair is not that much different than someone repairing a pulled cleat.
but since you are there already....its half the work !

If you like the boat, don't mind investing a couple of grand and 80-100 hours of work, then you can bring her back to 20+ years of service. Lot's of help here on the forum. Your decision.

Thanks for the info. I was already kind of on the fence about the rebuild so I decided to part it out and find something with a merc setup.
