Boys! Quick question? I'm doing the Stringers and transom on my 86 chris craft 210. I've got the transom pretty much prepped. I was wondering what glass I should use for the tabbing and to cover the ply? I'm using basic no blush epoxy from epoxy usa. I also bought 2 gals of a wet/dry 700 kevlar reinforced epoxy putty to laminate the ply to the hull. Looking for your opinions, questions, I want to do this right. Thanks. I'm also having trouble loading my pix on here.

If epoxy 1708 with no mat backing. If poly 1708 with mat backing. Pics would be very helpful for more definitive answers.
Welcome to Iboats!
Ha ha to the pics. best is to go to photbucket, set up free account then load em in.

Welcome Dave! We mostly use poly resin and 1708 biax... We glue our plywood (after being prepped properly) with a mixture of poly resin cabosil and milled fibers....we call it peanut butter.... Tons of info in the beginning section of the restoration section in the stickies....good first read.... also read a bunch of others resto threads for great tip and visual aid..... we will help you along ;)

The only problem I have with using poly rickyryder is that I'm in a closed garage that has a family living above it. Poly has tons of vocs. Where epoxy has none to very little. I'm using a wet/dry 700 epoxy putty reinforced with kevlar. Strong as hell. So you guys say I should use 1708 with no Matt backing? I have heard people using pl to secure or hold the stingers in place before tabbing? Doesn't that createa hard spot on the boat? Don't you want to leave a little flex room?

I would love to put pics on here but I'm having trouble finding the photo bucket app. Any ideas on that?

photobucket.com <---- Just make an account here....upload your photos.....click on photo you want and copy the IMG code from the colum on the right....it's the bottom/last one on the list....then paste that code in the text box here.....your pic will appear in the thread.

As far as PL or PB for bedding stringers....no one has had any problems with hard spots that I have heard of...

Ok, found the app, uploaded pics, and can't get them onto here. Says I've exceeded the bytes capacity?

A "hard" spot isn't what most people think it is, they think hard as in "hard like a rock" but that's not it. A hard spot when bedding in stringers is when the stringer sits down "hard" on the hull with no adhesive under it. Both poly and epoxy resin get very hard, probably harder than PL.

Your 700 epoxy putty should be fine for bonding the transom and stringers to the hull and your cove fillets. What kind of pot life does it have? 20 minutes at 75*F?

That's because it's over 20' long and they didn't have to put it in for the USCG regs and they designed the boat strong enough to not need it for support.

The motor rails are perfect! Other than that everything else is getting replaced. Please give me some input. This forum rules!

Did you do a hole saw test for either side? Sometimes what looks good on the outside is another story for the inside.
