I have a 1976 Mercury 1150. I have never used it before. The motor runs good but when I put it into gear it doesn't seem to have any drive. I changed the water pump recently and everything went back together smoothly. Can anyone help me with this promlem?

Re: Transmission Problems

First make sure the motor is shifting. Remove the wrap cowl and push the control into forward. Does the shift lever move? if it does, spin the prop (Key off). Prop should rachet CW in forward, and not turn CCW w/o moving the flywheel. If the prop spins freely, the motor is still in neutral, and you need to drop the gearcase, control in neutral. Turn the shift shaft CCW until it clicks into neutral. Now reinstall.

Re: Transmission Problems

Thank you that did the trick I've been working on this boat for a while as a first time boat owner with no knowledge and just a repair manual to help me out. Again thanks so much
