Transducer wire routing for HDS-7

I am trying to install a transom mount transducer on my 2012 Proline 20 sport w/Suzuki 150 4stroke.
Should the wire go thru the transom into the hull above the water line or route it over the the transom in the engine well area and go into the hull there? Is one way better than the other?
The hole will be 1" and I have to figure a way to seal with a grommet or silicone 5200.
I did concider the IN hull mounting but I want all the detail I can get with my HDS-7.
I am open for suggestions.

On my current boat I ran the transducer out splash well and over the transom. On my previous boat, I drilled a 1/2 diameter hole (cut of he connector to be able to use the smaller hole) thru the transom and epoxied a 1/2" OD PVC tube in the hole to seal the passage way. I then used silicone to seal the cable inside the tube. A calm shell to finish off the installation.

Running the cable up over the transom makes it more vulnerable to damage, IMO. I would drill through the transom as far above the waterline as possible. Don't forget the clamshell cover after sealing the hole with the proper sealant (e.g. 3M 4200).

I was able to route the cable through the drain hole for the splash well, then through the large splash well control cable hole. I agree, over the top, and it will be damaged, sooner or later.
