Transducer ticking

When I turn my fish finder on there is a ticking sound coming from the back of the boat where the transducer is located.
Any ideas??

Yes -- that's the transducer ticking! Perfectly normal. Put your hand on it and you can feel the pulses. (Go ahead -- you will not get a shock!!)

Thanks for the info.
I did not hear this ticking in the past years of using the fish finder. Is there anything that can be done to eliminate the ticking.

The only way to stop the ticking would be to destroy the transducer(not recomended). As stated earlier its part of the operation its normal, I read were some just turn it off when still or drift fishing I can only Guess that they think it disturbs the fish I don't know if it does or not.

I don't think it disturbs the fish it just never ticked in the past.

yes it did, you just didn't hear it.
sonar+ sound. the ticking is HOW the transducer works. they all do it.
if it didn't, oyu wouldn't have sonar.

Sonar is Sound and Ranging.
It send out an audio sound signal and waits for the Echo to return then does it again.

Unit with higher Power make more noise. 50 Khz is eaiser to here than 200 Khz. Anything loose like the mounting will cause it to make more noise when the unit pulses. It can shake in the mount and that may be the sound you here.
