Re: Transatlantic Cruise- Anyone Taken One?

Al Grover from Freeport Long Island crossed in a 26' skiff powered by outboard in 1985. I fished with his son back then. He was a courageous salty dude. The story of the crossing is a great read.

Safety hasn't been mentioned so far and that should be a primary concern. MAKE SURE you can light the Sylvan (full of fuel) on fire as a distress signaling device. I'm guessin' that should be visible from satellite imagery. (FWIW, don't leave EPIRB on Sylvan.)

This is exactly the sort of feedback that makes iboats the 'go to' place for boating advice. I have a 'not marine rated' stereo I'll put in the Sylvan- I can set the fuel off with the remote control. Thanks, fishrdan!

no problem, as long as you can get ethanol-free fuel for the trip, use sae j1171 components on your engine, and store your outdrive in the lowered position whilst in Europe (resist the temptation to "show a bit o leg"), you will have no issues.
Also 14 batteries on 9 Perko switches and synthetic oil in your engine - good to go.
Run the blower for 6 months before leaving.
