Definitely idiot, this is not an either/or though, he could be both. What venue was that quote from i.e. was he defending somebody in a court when he said it? I guess it is his responsibility to put forth the best case for his evil customers, so I might cut him some slack as far as traitor . . .

LOL @ Frogboy

Lawyers who defend even the most vicious criminals are simply being lawyers. They say what promotes their client's case.

JB,

He is on trial for offences that occured in 1986 (I think). His accusers are not Americans but those countrymen he had tortured. Why would Mr. Ramsey even comment about the American military? It is completely unrelated to the case at hand?

JMO, I do believe Clark is in place to ensure that the USA public perception is that Saddam has received a fair and unbiased trial.

Calling those whose ideas you disagree with bad names is a childish way to deal with them.

Ramsay Clark is neither idiot nor traitor, he just has some very wrong ideas. That can be said about many folks in Washington, DC, too.

Re: Traitor or Idiot?

Of course you are right JB, and here IMHO is the place to actually use much more descriptive language as there is no body language etc. I have a problem generally with the whole bash lawyer thing in the first place, I wish I was one. It seems like I could make a job out of arguing . . .

I would like to read a complete transcript of one of his trials. Milosevic's, for example. Then we could really decide if he was a treasonous, idiot, defender of evil with a lot more back-up. What a thing to be known for . . .

Re: Traitor or Idiot?

I was mistaken but the spirit is correct. Saddam and his seven co-defendants could face the death penalty if convicted for the 1982 massacre of nearly 150 Shiites in the town of Dujail.

JB I may be in a party of one, but I am ashamed of the OJ trial. It wasn't justice. It was a show or carnival. A guilty man walked, a man was slimed, and a family gets no justice.

By attempting to redirect the focus by defaming the coalition figures how into this case? We didn't get there for 9 or 21 years afterwards depending on what your perspective is. Therefor his comments are relevent to the case in no way. And that is why he is there. To deal with the facts of 1982. If he wanted to change the focus why attack his country and try to make the trial procedings invalid based on some unsubstantiated conspiracy? What would you do if a white man was on trial for crimes against a black man, and the lawyer spewed all kinds of racial comments and stereotypes right out of the KKK playbook, then pointed to the ensuing riot as justification for the original crime? Would you consider that zealous defense or racist obfuscation?

Therefor it is my contention that he is pandering to the lowest form and putting lives at risk without any legal basis (traitor), or is severely mentally challenged (idiot). Seems you and I are going back and forth, but that is how I see it. That wouldn't make my post childish. Remember he equated our troops to terrorists. Many of these so called terrorists were not even born in 1982.

Re: Traitor or Idiot?

Well, Pointer. It doesn't really matter whether we agree on the verdict in the OJ trial. I think we agree that it was a demonstration of one of the flaws in our judicial system: It isn't about truth or justice; it is about winning.

So why kill the messenger, it is the system not the lawyer.
