Ok, this is interesting... a google search reveals 3 sites with 3 different supposed max speeds for towing in texas. Funny (or maybe not so funny) thing is before this thread I had no clue there was even a max towing speed in texas (although there may not be if the 70mph is correct since that is the max speed in texas).

for Texas, here's

70mph:

60mph:

55mph:

crazy... just goes to show you... you can't really trust the internet much...

Re: Trailers Sways above 65

I think its pretty obvious there is a lot of misinformation out there on the subject.........................common sense has to come into play then at some point. If the trailer starts to sway at 65mph, and it has proper tongue weight etc, then I'd say.....................Don't go over 65.

I generally go 65-70mph when I'm towing on the freeway. In a few rare instances I may get up to 75 going down hill and I just coast it out. I pay pretty close attention to what the trailer is doing.............I have yet to see it sway or anything, but fact of the matter is for stopping safety alone I don't like to go any faster than I do.

Going 55mph to me is just as unsafe as 75mph...............gotta at least go somewhat with the flow, or you become a pretty big hazard. Going 10 mph slower than even the slowest cars is just a disaster in the waiting..........

I don't believe the weight requirement for brakes in NY is 1000 lbs. as stated in the above link recvehicle .com. I believe it is 3000 lbs.

Faster you go, more heat in the hubs, condition of the bearings gets more critical. Same with tires.
