Trailering an 1802

I'm considering the purchase of a Trophy 1802. My limitation in my tow vehicle is a 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan with a tow limit of 3500 lbs. The 1802 is within that limit, but a friend said that only applies to towing on a roadway. He doesn't think I'll be able to pull the boat out of the water after putting it back on the trailer.

HELP. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts?

kinda iffy...i tow mine with a toyota tacoma 4x4 with a v6...i purchased it outta state some of the hills on the highway were a bit much, i was only able to do like 50 mph with my foot to the floor in 4th..the boat is something like 2675lbs thats not including gas and extra gear...i'd be afraid pulling the boat up the ramp..it does trailer nice though! good luck

I would be afraid to pull it too much with a mini van.
1/2 ton truck would be iffy.
You have to wonder about the tranny and stopping.
Just my .02 worth.

Thank you for your response. What is the tow limit on your Tacoma? I think one of the available engines has the same 3,500 tow limit as my Sienna minivan.

Re: Trailering an 1802

I used to tow my 2003 Trophy 1802 with my old Ford Ranger STX with a 4.0L and 4x4. It had no problems. Where you might run into a problem is at low tide when there's all sorts of slippery stuff on the ramp. With the 4x4 there was no problem - just put it in 4WD and up the ramp we went. With your van that could be another matter. So, if you're willing to go by the tides and not wind up coming in at a low tide you should be good to go. If you want to test at low tide make sure and bring some people down with you to help "push" the vehicle up the ramp if it can't do it on it's own. :) Good luck in whatever you decide.

I tow my 1802 with my chevy s10 zr2. But it has a vortec v6, 4x4, and rated at towing 5,000 lbs. Your trailer should have some sort of brakes on it. Are you reading the rating on the bumper or is it rated for that with the correct hitch??
