Re: Trailer tires
For everyone's entertainment and to further deepen the fog, here's another long, drawn out battle I found on this topic with a lot of Carlisle bashers:
http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zerothread?cmd=print&id=351913

And here's another with some more Goodyear horror stories.
http://www.rv.net/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/14129448/gotomsg/14137228.cfm

There's a consistent theme here, and none too surprising: Everyone who has blown some Carlisles is a Goodyear fan. Everyone who has blown some Goodyears is a Carlisle fan. And for all we know, we're all comparing apples and oranges since some are running ST tires, some radials, some bias plys, and some people probably aren't doing proper maintenance and are complaining about a failure that they themselves caused by overloading, improper application, speeding, wrong inflation, UV Rot, etc. etc...

Maybe it's time to check into Coopers or Titans or Firestones? They make trailer tires, too...but don't seem to be talked about very often, so maybe no news is good news? But the more I look, the more I honestly feel that there is no answer to this "which brand is better" question, we all gotta fly by the seat of our pants...it's probably much more important to get a proper load rating, keep tire pressure correct, protect them from the sun, don't let them flat-spot in the off seasons, keep the speeds down, and check them often for wear/cracks/bulges/problems.

What gets me more than anything else is the number of complete morons (yes, morons...and if you fit this category you are indeed a complete moron and I won't apologize for saying so) who actually tow trailers without carrying a functional spare tire and the necessary tools & jacks to change it. The last 3 used trailers I purchased from private parties had no spare...when I inquired if one was included in the sale I expected to get a normal reasonable answer like "I'm keeping it for my new trailer." But no, I always got "it never had one...never thought about it." Morons. Ok, I'm done now.
