Re: Trailer tires not wearing even.

Moving it has nothing to do with your tire wear or making it level. Moving it is so that your transom is supported properly by the bunks. Moving it will affect your tongue weight.

Re: Trailer tires not wearing even.

Just looking at the pics I wouldn't be replacing those tires yet.

Look at the weight rating on the sidewall... make sure that it is at least 1/4 of the total weight of the boat and trailer loaded w gear and gassed up

As I told you before, the equalizer will compensate for a couple inches of hitch height but there is a limit... best bet is get the trailer LEVEL. Use a dropped ball mount if needed. Make sure you maintain pressure as printed on sidewall and make sure your next set is not "some cheap chinese brand"

Speed eats tires also... If you are towing at 80 mph you can expect to go through trailer tires faster than you would at 60.

If your tongue weight is too low and the trailer is constantly swaying that will also wear tires but at this point we are grasping at straws.

You really need to go through the steps to make sure your setup is right with ANY trailer

step one get it level
step two get the boat properly supported on the trailer (transom even w last cross member)
step three get it weighed... axle weight and tongue weight
step four adjust tongue weight by moving axle if it is not correct. (most look for 10-15% and some want it as low as 7%)
report back after doing the above

I see those are bias ply tires. Didn't think anyone ran those any more. With bias plys, one can do everything right and still have funny tire wear. Next time go radials. You still need to keep an eye on tire pressure. But you'll be amazed at the wear difference.

Re: What destroyed my tires

Hoping someone here with more knoledge then I can tell by the photos what lead to their early destruction. I was not that good at checking the pressure and when I did I filled them up to 55PSI. I am going to have to replace all 4 of them and the spare which will set me back about $600. I would like to avid this in the future. I am not sure if the photos do it justice but the outside edges of the tires are worn pretty bad. The back is worse than the front.

I suspect you read it wrong and it is saying they should be inflated to 65 psi

what is the tire rating? A<B<C<D<E?

B and C are most common and it is going to be printed on the tire and the rating will indicate the correct pressures for it.

constant under inflated tires will quickly destroy themselves in short order

They are QIND QD-719 ST225/75D15 65PSI cold date code 4512. I guess I under inflated them now that I am looking at one......,

Re: Trailer tires not wearing even.

Load range D tires, 6500 pound boat, 1500 pound trailer, fuel and extra gear, maybe gross around 9000 to 9500.

Bias trailer tire 2540 pounds each at 65psi, tires are at their limits with a fully loaded boat. Probably trailer is to, guessing 5200 pound axles and maybe 6-lug rims
What is the trailer max load capacity?

I would bump up to E and keep them properly inflated.

Gee wiz, man your over loaded. Time to contact the dealer and ask what's going on

Edit: axles are over loaded

That was my thoughts on the other posts about tire pressure...when I saw pics earlier, the boat looked massive on that trailer!

How do you figure?
His boat weighs 6,480 lbs which gives him 1300lbs worth of fuel and crap in the boat before he was at the trailer max

6480 + 1300 = 7880 then + 1500 (trailer) = 9280

70 gallons fuel tank
20 gallon water
20 gallon holding tank

Boat 6,480
Fuel 80@6.5 = 520
Water 25@8.3 = 207
Holding Tank 25@10 250 (assuming the tank is full and poop weighs 10Lbs per gallon)
Total: 7457

Generator 50
Cooler full of stuff 50
Sheets pillows and PFD 20
Spare Tire 30
Grill 15
Dock Lines and fenders 25
TV and DVDs 20
Wife's over night bag 60

Other - 270Lbs

7457+270 7,727Lbs

Im reaching here guys. I never tow the ting with a full tank of fuel or water and pump the holding tank before she goes back on the trailer. I also never have the cooler, generator, wife's over night bag etc on the boat when I am towing her. I am close but realistically I still have about a 500Lbs of wiggle room.

The max trailer capacity includes weight of trailer, subtract the weight of the trailer max listing. You may even have 5-lug wheels which if pushed are not made to handle the weight the tire can handle. So the reason your trailer is showing more then 7500 is because the tow vehicle is said to carry 10% of the load. If you do have 5-lug rims you probably have 3500 pound axles

Re: Trailer tires not wearing even.

Let me back up and make sure your trailer is what I think it is and determine what it actually is. I did find some 6-lug 3500 pound hubs and drums so it probably still has 3500 pound axles but would like to verify. What make and model is the trailer? Plan to go to the trailer manufacture site or make calls and see what they say.

Re: Trailer tires not wearing even.

7900 lbs is the CAPACITY of the trailer that is a 10,000 lb gross trailer that weighs about 2000 lbs

you're more than ok... just put the specified tires back on it and keep the inflated to the specified pressure on the side wall.
