Since you are traveling long distances there is a good chance you will be loading a lot of extra stuff in the toon for the trip. Pontoon trailers weight about 800 - 850 pounds so that puts the weight at 2300. If the boat weighs 1500 it does not include the engine, fuel, batteries, and gear. My 18 foot Misty Harbor/40 HP Suzy 4-stroke/Shorelander bunk trailer, batteries, 20 gallons of fuel, fishing gear etc is very close to 3000#. On a single axle trailer you would need load range "E" tires if you opt for the low profile and even at that they are close their load limit (1530# each as I remember. The Shorelander trailer was in excess of 800#. You would be wise to opt for the tandem in my view especially with the long distances in mind. You can of course, get larger rims and tires but then launching and retrieval becomes and issue so the low profiles are nice in that regard.
