Trailer not operating properly?

I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this is answered on here somewhere...
My trailer won't stay open to accept the hitch ball. When I try to lock it in the up position the locking block, inside, doesn't stay back so the ball can come up into the locked position. I recently got into boating and bought this trailer and boat. The trailer originally had surge breaks but was recently converted over to electric. I've sprayed everything with wd40 vigorously but doesn't seem to make a difference. It simply will not stay back in the lock position...any ideas?

post a picture of it. Are you sure you have the correct ball size?

The easiest solution may be to get a new hitch for your trailer. They can get rusted up and stuck or taken Apart and put back together wrong. If your trailer has one of the easily replaceable hitches on it, that may make life a lot easier than emptying a can or two of WD40 into it for little to no improvement.

It sounds like the spring is missing, it should have a spring as part of the internal mechanism thats what holds it open until you latch it.

This will give you the idea
