Hey yoll,

Well, after a nice day of boating, I tried lifting the trailor off my truck, only to realize that the wheel would not extend. I crank the handle and the wheel just spins and spins, I figure the internal threads are worn out. Is this an easy fix? Can they be taken apart? Or should I just get me another one?

Moral of the story is i couldn't figure out how to get my truck freed, so i had a good excuse to ride to work on my bike. :D

What happens if you hold the lower tube from spinning with one hand and crank with the other ?

tommays

Most trailer jacks are consumables that should be replaced annually in salt water use and every 2 or 3 year in fresh.

Never had one that lasted more than 3 years regardless of careful maintenance.

Try Tom's suggestion. If that works, disassemble it, clean out the old, congealed grease, relube it and use it for another year or so. Or, just replace the $%^&* thing.

That's what yer foot's for. Stick your foot against the wheel to prevent it from spinning, THEN crank. It'll probably lift right up. If it's spinning strong enough to actually push your foot outta the way, throw it out and replace.

Yes sir, that exactly what I did, but my foot posed no resistance to the spinning. They look pretty dang cheap so I guess it's high time to replace it anyways. By the way, it's 5 years old. Away it goes!

Thanks

Overtons? Nothing wrong with that I guess, but SUPPORT YOUR WEBSITE! I think many forget that this site is much more than just a chat forum. It's actually a STORE. Iboats has just about the largest selection of boating accessories as any of the other mail order joints. Good service, too...and many times their prices are better than the others. Go right to the top of this screen you're reading and check 'em out.

Just to help you out, here's a direct link to I-boats FOUR PAGES of trailer jacks to choose from:
http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...id=217585&view_id=217585&search_type=category

I agree with craze.....most of the time their prices here are fairly competative. The shiiping is very fast as well. Everytime I order the stuff is here in a day or two.

The boat I just traded for my most recent acquisition had an "el cheapo" from Harbor Freight Tools. It was used around salt water for three years. I would pop the cap and spray PB Blaster inside every couple of weeks, as well as the external shaft. It was still working a few weeks ago when I traded the rig off. Not very pretty, but still working.

Hate to say but heavy things are better purchased locally so freight will not kill you. iBoats is usually a great place to get things and the Props are in that catagory. Stpid me had to buy 3. :)
Having said that there are no real places here to get parts or they are real expensive so off to iBoats I go first.

Geeze, what a Communist move, censoring my link to the dreaded and feared ****tons. I was just helping out, showing that there are lots of places on the internet to buy boat related things. Funny, I reviewed the User Agreement, and I didn't see anything about not posting links to "undesirable" websites such as ****tons.

So, if you want to buy a jack at the wonderful, super, lovely, honorable, fantastic, quality iboats.com website, here ya go:

I-Boats Trailer Jacks.

By the way, you can pay an extra few buck for them at i-boats, too!

Geez dude... This isn't communism nor democracy. This is a private company offering a service hoping to get some extra business.

Do you have a sign advertising for your competitors at your job?

Re: Trailer jack not extending wheel

No, of course not, but then that's not the intention of my company's web site.

Check the notice at the bottom of this forum:

"iboats.com provides the message boards for the education and benefit of all boating enthusiasts. "

This appears to be a lie. You seem to think this forum should be a benefit of the iboats.com store, but they clearly state that it's here for the benefit of ALL boating enthusiasts.

I just happen to be an enthusiast of the ****tons site, but I guess the admins don't like that and choose to censor me. Hypocrites.

You can't link directly to a commercial site....doesn't matter if they sell cheesecake or cheesehead hats....NO commercial linking allowed. Been said MANY times in the forums.
That said, you CAN recommend a site, just don't provide a link. You can say "check out the blah blah at overtons.com, but don't use the www and link to it....kapeesh?

Bob, I was also a bit stunned to find that your post was edited. I certainly saw no reason for the edit, and most importantly I find the "bad manners" comment to be completely out of line from an administrator. You provided price and link only if I recall.

I've seen people here refer others to all kinds of links and companies, so I don't understand why this one was singled out.

I also gotta add that I don't agree with your communist reference, but I'll agree I'm disappointed in how this was handled.

But I now consider myself educated....I too did not realize you couldn't link other commercial sites.
