hope it is relatively easy were you're at. it sucks in nc. not so long ago I bought another project boat for the trailer that was titled underneath it. after two years can't get a title here for the trailed under a boat I bought. I'll spare you the account of the adventure...

Here in CA, if you know one of the previous owners and have at least the frame number, you can do a lien sale, pay ten bucks for a copy of the regs, and after 30 days it's yours. that's what I have to do to both of my boats with trailers. One of them's been sitting for 40 years(since '64) and dmv doesn't even have a record of it. But usually a bill of sale with as much info does the trick.

if your state is really backwards and crappy, you must live here in pennsylvania:D
you would be able to file for a "reconstructed or homemade title" this is not an easy process, but it is possible, and not overly expensive. it will take a little while, and may require you to ...um, well,...fudge a few details about how you made it.

if you live in a state that doesn't suck, i'm sure they have a similar, less sucky procedure, because it doesn't involve the antichrist we call pendot...)Pa residents are currently nodding and sighing in pained agreement of the preceding statement.).

FUDGE??? What you really mean is there is more manufacturing of details than of trailer:D:D
Let me know if you have gotten thru this process inthe last ten years or so....Pa is horrible.

georgia- call the police if there is a trailer s/n they can fill out a form from the tag office. if not you have to take it to the state tag office in hapeville and they will issue it a new number on a new tag.

I highly highly highly doubt it was stolen. The boat is clean and the PO had the trailer and boat together on the loan paperwork, insurance, and previous bill of sale. I hope I didn't open a can of worms, but I have a call into the highway patrol to try and figure out what I need to do. A trooper already told me worse case is I need to get a new trailer for the boat. :(

By the way, I didn't have any trouble insuring the boat and trailer. You can't title a boat in Kansas no mater how much you want to. It's hard to believe that an old boat trailer worth one tenth of the boats value can be so much more difficult. If I had a spare few thousand dollars It'd be fun just go get new trailer and forget about it.

That's been a problem with almost all my boat purchases. The boat doesn't have or need a title so the previous owner never kept the trailer information. It's a bit more of a problem with a bigger boat.

I'm moving to Florida this winter. Any ideas on what I can do if I move there and haven't resolved this yet?

Now you're fishin' in my pond. The answer is...it depends on which title clerk you get and the kind of day he or she is having. I've gotten a tag for a boat trailer just by transferring the boat title and I've had to produce a bill of sale. I've gone through the process with several boat trailers with varying requirements. So if you you don't like the first answer you get keep trying. My guess is that with the documentation you have you can simply apply for a Florida title. They'll need the ID number on the trailer and a bill of sale.Just tell them you didn't need a trailer title in your state. Good luck!

i am picking up a 28' party hut friday this week. the boat is in kentucky. i live in indiana....the problem.....kentucky doesnt require registration of the trailer...indiana does. in order to get thr tags, the BMV has to verify that the trailer matches the title. in order to do that, they have to see the trailer. as soon as i cross into indiana, i'm illegal for no plates. neither indiana nor kentucky will issue a temporary permit. typical government. i risk a ticket but plan to bring the boat home anyway. .........Bear
