Trailer brakes question

My EZ loader trailer had brakes on it at one point. The previous owner took half the caliper off cause they froze up due to use in saltwater. I've had the boat and trailer for 12 years now and recently down graded my truck to save fuel. 2001 Ford F250 super duty 2WD to a 2000 Dodge Dakota sport 4x4 3.9L V6. It gets the job done but I want brakes back on the trailer for better braking.
The trailer is a late 80's EZ loader dual axle trailer with a 21ft cuddy cabin boat that weighs 4800lbs. The trailer has everything on it still but the calipers. The front axle have disk brakes on them and nothing on the rear one. Then coupler is a Titan Model 60 surge actuator that has a max GVWR of 6000Lbs. The disk brakes are not vented and in great shape. The brake lines need to be replaced (easy to do for me).
Is their a way for me to just get the calipers and brake pads?
I don't want to spend the money on a new brake package. I use the trailer a couple times a year. to put the boat in and out of the water mainly.
Any questions I will answer to to best of my ability.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Trailer brakes question

Sure you can buy loaded calipers. Your problem is matching the parts you have and the parts you used to have. For example matching the new caliper to the old mounting bracket, possibly from two different manufacturers. If you can ID the manufacturer from the discs (it isn't EZ Loader), then you have a starting place. Also after 12 years of non-use, the actuator is most likely due for replacement. A kit might be the easiest way to go.

Contact EZ Loader with the VIN/model numbers and they may be able to give you specifics about the trailer.

You can get all the parts here on iboats.

Re: Trailer brakes question

Sometimes a brake kit is the cheapest way to go! Keep in mind your master cylinder is probably also shot. It doesn't take long without fluid for it to develop rust, and once that happens, its replacement time. The most obvious part of the entire system (the discs themselves) also happen to be a wear item and also the cheapest, so don't judge the condition of your brake system from those. From your description, you are talking a top to bottom redo, or just buy a full kit.

Re: Trailer brakes question

I looked up online and new calipers for my brakes are $90 each on eBay. A new master cylinder would be $80. About $300 to redo my trailer.
I think I'm gonna not replace the brakes just yet. wait till the summer to take a look at everything while the boat is off the trailer.
The most I travel is 5 miles to the ramp.
Thanks everyone.
