The local scrap guy has "scrap is forever" on the side of his truck. I think he is on to something!

Senior Master Technician covers all things Electric,Electronic,Gas,Hydraulic,Steam,Diesle,Mechanical. World Wide Just different measures have never been without work since 72 . But lost in woods without tools its a great eye opener whats important and how you need to improvise /make tools . Sound familar about Nessesity was the mother of invention and anything that is alive to this date had to learn at sometime so bee easy on beginers because you were there once too. Beg ,Borrow ,Barter and Steel.

Ha! Brewer, as in beer maker! We always noticed that when the economy tanked, people just switched to cheaper beer. Didn't drink less of it though. In this economy they're switching to more expensive beers - craft and imports. Crazy business, but there's always business.

If you took a look who stays employed the most in the trades who would you think.

Health care all aspects, employed I bet.

1) carpenter
2) plumber
3) electrician
4) computer tech
5) auto mechanic
5) cook
6) ? welder fabricator
7) Bartender (thats a trade EH??)
8) ?
9) ?
10) ?

Just my guesses, your take

my thoughts are the guys who stay employed the most are the guys who do what people can't or don't want to do. Electricain is very high, plumber is up there, auto tech on new cars,

the one I would place the highest would be medical though. tough schooling to go through but after that you write your own ticket through life.

IT is very volatile. I have seen companies take out whole IT teams because they wanted a change. Good money when you have a good gig but easy to get run out. Let the system fail for more then a few hours and you can bet the co is looking at you as expendable.

Carpenter is great when you're young and the econ is booming. if you don't plan properly to either be a lead or full blown contractor by 40 you'll be hurting. (physically)

cooks don't make a ton of money, and it's not a very stable field unless you are very exceptional.

fabrication guys now days are pretty stable. I did that for some years before going to school. it was a great job with lots if interesting challenges. once you get your name out there, jobs are usually available.

another one not on your list would be design work. electrical is harder to find but very stable, mech is easy to find and almost always in demand.

A couple years ago I had my electric service upgraded from 50 amp. I talked a lot with the electrician. He does nothing up upgrades because he says nobody else wants to touch them and even in slow times when the union bench is full he's still gets all the hours he wants.

i surveyed land, started in 1990, it was feast or famine, payed well during the feast part:), the last famine started in 2006, the housing development i was staking out shut down phase 2 and i got layed off:facepalm:, after a couple years of temp jobs and periods of un employment, i went to school to get certified as an auto tech, so now i'm a gm tech, plenty of job security:facepalm: they break all the time, just wish they payed better:rolleyes: but then i guess it would be in less demand because everyone would want to do it

HR Professional, opening an agency seems to be a booming business nowadays. Earn $5 for every hour someone else works.
