Corvair vs. Samurai? I'll take unsafe at any speed. A high wind will blow a Samurai over, even when stopped. That I know for a fact.

The Corvair had a nearly indestructible engine, provided it was cared for. I used three of them in converting VW busses. The 110 was the best of them.

I checked the Nevada DMV and the plate FNADER is available. Doubt it would make it to the press, though. 1964 Monza 900....sweet little car. I've been warned that it is all about the Grandkids tomorrow and forget about boats and cars for 1 day.

Corvairs bring back a lot of fond memories... LUBE THE CABLES!!! I lost count on how many clutch and accelerator cables I changed in those babies. Also, BE SURE the battery is fastened down correctly. A hard left turn with the additional torque as you accelerate tumps it over pretty easy.

Funny, but I discounted Nader after reading his book late in High School. They are cool cars and the engineering used to make them work was clearly inspired.

Joke all you like but my mom had a Corvair, until the retaining clip that held the axel in snapped and the drivers rear wheel and axel fall off the car just as she was coning to a stop. It didn't matter how much I assured her it was repaired she would never drive it again.

And the same happened on some '63-'67 Vettes. And always messed up the 1/4 panels. And unfortunately you know how FG work goes now, Bubba.

Man this thing is fun to drive. Guess I will be searching for a Corvair forum that is as good as iboats, but unlikely to find one this good.

The guy that I traded with has an ARCA series race team. These are serious car guys.

I had a '65 when I was a kid. Wish I still had it as it was an awesome little car. Powerglide 2 speed would slam into gears as it shifted but that was normal. Also would go through 6-7 inches of snow with ease. Pretty cool seeing how low to the ground it was. I see you already responded to the extra fan belt but I'd just like to add to keep a spare IN the car. They're very easy to change and I flat out guarantee you will go through them fairly regularly.

One of the Corvair clubs has a fan belt toss as one of the competitions at the annual meet....HMMM fan belt toss...that's why I said that I would pick up two!

That was the Corsa engine wasn't it? Some say the untimely death of the Corvair was what saved the Vette. Behind the scenes it was rumoured that Duntov was as much to blame as Nader for the death of Ed Coles Corvair. I don't think Duntov appreciated Cole stealing his ideas and the independent rear suspension was said to be the last straw.

Chevy had originally planned to phase out the Corviar program in 1966 but the decided to go 3 more years because of Nader's attacks.
