Currently, I have a 1997 Suzuki 15hp longshaft that I use to push my 16' Lund. The engine is in great condition with regular maintenance, proper flushing, and kept very clean.

I found a guy on Craigslist witha 1995 Suzuki 25hp longshaft wanting to trade for a smaller engine.

Here are my questions:

1. Would this be a fair trade (all things being equal)?
2. Will the extra 10hp be very noticeable with my boat?
3. What should I look for when looking over his engine to make sure it is in good repair?

Thanks.

Re: Trade Suzuki Engines

All things are not likely to be equal on over-ten engines. If both are as good as you say yours is an even trade sounds fair to me.

The extra cubic inches, never mind rated HP, will make a noticable difference on your boat.

Nothing beats an on-the-water demo. Failing that do a compression check and run it on muffs. While on the muffs disable each spark plug to see that idle drops for both (both making power).
