I know the CR-V isn't the best towing vehicle out there, but right now it's what I have. 1500 tow capacity.

I am looking at a Polar Craft 17' (560 lbs) with a 70 hp motor (200~ lbs). I can't find the weight of the trailer and the boat is 2+ hours away. I don't want to drive there and not be able to tow.

Do you think a steel trailer that size would put me over the limit or make it impossible to get out of the water? I can find mellow slope boat ramps to launch from, so steep hills aren't a huge concern.

What do y'all think?

EZ Loader trailers are between 332 and 446 lbs for a 14-17' trailer, so you should be around 1200 lbs. That would put you at 1092-1206 lbs. that leaves you 300-400 lbs for passengers and gear, so it's doable with the lightest trailer, but it'll be tight. With a heavier trailer, once you include passengers and gear, you will be over your limit. Can't answer whether you'll have trouble getting it out of the water or not. The bigger concern is safety on the road.

bigger question is what is your towing experience? The exact same vehicle in europe is rated at almost 3000#. The vehicle is fine for that load.

The vehicles controllable stopping power in emergency conditions is what I tend to consider. You'll be fine under normal situations, but should you have to slam on the brakes... could get scary.

Do you think I'll destroy the car towing it around? My goal is to sell my Mazda5 at some point and buy a truck to tow stuff around with, but I would like to get a boat now and get out on the water. I just recently moved from the city to a lake town, so I'm ready to take full advantage. But I don't want to be stupid about it. Once I get the boat to town, most everything will be within half an hour or less for the foreseeable future.

I almost feel like 17' might be too big for 3 of us anyways, but I've been told we were outsize a 14' fast and I can't find anything in between. Not sure if I should wait to see if a 16' pops up, or if it is even worth waiting to see since I like the boat that is for sale.

Decisions, decisions.

You DON'T figure passengers into trailer capacity....
Add for fuel, batteries, anchor, cooler w ice, etc

Anything IN the boat while trailering

No you won't likely be over 1500 lbs and you won't likely destroy your car but take it easy.... Tow slower than you might otherwise drive

Consider a transmission cooler and yeah upgrade to a better tow rig when you can

There is a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) also that the total package of Car and Towing payload should not exceed for safety. The #1500 tow rating for said vehicle may only allow for 3 gallons of fuel and an 85lb. driver in the tow vehicle for example, Just keep that in mind, as more weight in the tow vehicle will reduce the actual towing capacity when the GCWR is considered.

I think you will be right at the cusp but probably under the 1500lb rating but regardless, Honda recommends that any trailer being towed by a CRV weighing more than 1000lbs have brakes. I'm assuming the trailer that comes with a boat that size does not have brakes??? Not saying it can't be done but just make sure to leave enough stopping distance between you and whatever is in front of you and I think you'll be fine as long as you stay under RAWR, GVWR and GCWR.

Be sure you do NOT use the overdrive feature when towing!! That will hurt the transmission quickly. Other wise you should be fine, just use extra caution and common sense.

My wife took me out shopping for a couch yesterday and I came home with a Yukon 1500XL. My whole boat search parameters just expanded!!!
