Re: towing 3000#s

I just read that they're going to tow THE SPACE SHUTTLE with a Tundra.

Still, it's just a "toy" truck. It can't carry my Lance camper and pull my 4,000 pound boat. My F-250 does that. An F-350 can carry the Tundra, AND pull a boat.

I'm not sure I understand this post. Why wouldn't a Tundra be able to carry your camper and pull a boat if it's capable of towing the Space Shuttle and has a towing capacity well north of 10,000lbs. Is this a GVWR problem?

Now that we've had the "Great Tundra Battle of 2012", the answer to the OP's question is "Yes...it will easily tow 3000lbs".
I use a Kia Sorento 2WD to pull my boat that weighs in at around 3200lbs and it does an awesome job. I'd think your Tundra would be able to pull my car, pulling my boat.

On a side note, I've got this feeling that some of our posters in this thread don't realize that the Tundra model is a full-size truck. The "Tacoma" is the small truck.

Simple. When the Tundra pulls the Space shuttle, it will be a rear hitch pull - putting maybe 1000 pounds downward load on the truck.

Oh - and don't confuse TOWING capacity with PAYLOAD capacity.

My camper weighs 2,100 pounds. That goes in the bed of the truck, and is completely supported by the trucks suspension. The trailer adds about 300 pounds of tongue weight. That's WAY OVER the 1,650 pound payload rating of the Tundra. The Tundra is a "Half Ton" truck. The F-150 is also a haf ton truck. The F-250 is a 3/4 ton, and the F-350 is a one ton truck. Obviously, the actual cargo capacity is greater than those numbers.

Ehow is a really badly done user-contributed site. In other words, much like wikipedia, contributors are free to make up whatever they want. (I actually block ehow and fixya entirely in google search results, thank god for the blocked sites feature!) I had an island named after myself for a LONG time before anyone actually caught it on wikipedia.

Simple truth is the tundra is a really good truck and pushes the limits of what is defined as a 1/2 ton, but 25,000 on a 5th wheel is an entirely different ball game.

25k may be a stretch but on Toyota's own website they said thier concept dually was rated to pull 24k.....maybe that is how ehow got it's info. Regardless, the current Tundra is one bad truck that beats the competion!

Yeah - you are more than fine. Pic below is my buddy hooking up my '52 Ferguson to his "baby" Tacoma to tow it up north for me. Tractor is 3000 by itself, blade on the back of it is 200, and that car hauler has got to be at least 1500. Towed like a champ.

Two hours after that pic was snapped we drove through some rain and had some dummy talking on her cell phone manage to lose control and spin out right in front of us on the highway in our lane. Buddy jumped on the binders HARD and that truck stopped short and straight as an arrow with all that weight on a wet road. Saved her life and maybe ours too. Made me want to buy one on the spot that day. Awesome, awesome vehicle.

Sure you can do it with the Tundra.

The V8 engine is the same engine that they use in the Lexus LS460, with differnet intakes and camshafts.

I don't understand why Toyota doesn't do much better with the Tundra in sales--vs. Ford/Chevy. Toyota dealers have never been "low gross" profit operations, where Ford/Chevy dealers are willing to sell at fair prices.
