Re: Tow Boat with Sunfire

the hitch on the car only holds a 1 7/8 a 2 inch ball will not fit through the hole

This might be a clue about the towing capacity of Sunbird / Geo / skateboard, or whatever it is.

I'm starting to wonder what the point is to your question, because you are obviously going to use your Sunbird as a tow vehicle. It really doesn't matter what anyone here says. Or have I missed something?

the hitch on the car only holds a 1 7/8 a 2 inch ball will not fit through the hole, i have to get the hitch hole modified, a larger diameter to hold a 2 inch ball, i will be getting it bored out this week
Small bore 2"s are not hard to find. I have one on my Montero.
Try more than just wal-mart.
You don't need to modify the hitch, and doing so will reduce the cross section/strength of the already small hitch.

FWIW - About a year ago a guy where I live (Lawrence, KS) was using a good sized truck to pull covered utility trailer - I believe it was a business rig of some kind. He went casually crusing through an itersection, a bumpy one as they often are...
The trailer popped off - either broke the chains or there weren't any - jumped the curb, struck and killed a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

I'm of the opinion that the ability and awareness of the driver is as much or more of a factor than the capabilities of the vehicle doing the towing.
Well there is a worthless opinion. No offense. How is an "aware" driver going to stop the trailer from swaying or stop it period in an emegency?

BTW, when did not having the ideal tow vehicle become an indicator of a person's intelligence?
Risking the life of yourself, your passengers and those sharing the road with you is a clear indicator of a low IQ. There is no other way to see it.

That's just nonsense. You can get a 2 inch ball to fit your hitch. Did you even look?

What people are trying to tell you here is that you came here to ask advice. Advice was given to you, but you chose to just ignore it and do what you planned to do anyhow. What's the point?

Towing a trailer with a 2" hitch mount with an undersized car with a 1 7/8" ball is just plain wrong. You risked having an accident that might have injured another driver.

Would that have been worth the time you didn't waste to find a 2" ball, or was going to the lake that important to you...right then...never mind the risk.

Like I said, I was on your side with towing the boat a short distance with that car, but then you tell me you did it with an undersized ball. What else didn't you tell us?

I hope nobody who reads this series of posts decides to try what you did...just because you got away with it this time.

You'll get no further advice from me. If you're not going to listen to what people tell you, why bother to ask?

Here we go again.
No offense?? Riiiiight.

How is an "aware" driver going to stop the trailer from swaying or stop it period in an emegency?

With the brakes. Genius.
:D

In an emergency -- who knows?
In an emergency it might not GET stopped.
In an emergency an H2 pulling a jet ski might not get stopped.
In an emergency a Z06 pulling nothing at 50 mph might not get stopped in time.

I think it's called life, and last I knew that involved risk.

Risking the life of yourself, your passengers and those sharing the road with you is a clear indicator of a low IQ. There is no other way to see it.

Your definition of reasonable risk and mine are clearly very different.

Re: Tow Boat with Sunfire

YOU WERE WRONG! - the car hauld asss with boat in tow
It "hauled ***"?
Why would you know that? Much less WANT to know?

I am very experienced in towing trailers of all different sizes
Then you should know better.

The difference between a 2 inch ball and 1 7/8 ball is 1/8 of a inch, which is nothing, go home pull your head out of you bilge and try moving your trailer with a 1 7/8
It's most definitely something - and the fact you don't get it is NOT good.

ps. thanks liquid force for having some balls, its obvious that there are some old cooks on here who are afraid to take a risk to have a lil fun!

Naw man.
You're standing all alone on this one.

You were fine up to the 1-7/8 issue.
Mentioning it was bad enough.
Since then you've dug a hole and dug it in a hurry.
Defending it is pure ignorance.

The trailering experince you claim to have has taught you nothing, and I definitely believe the question of IQ is front and center.

My advice is to either leave, and don't come back.
Or change your name, your tone, and your attitude and TRY to learn something from this place.

Either way - get a clue.

Well, the original poster has gone back and edited all his posts into either nonsense or to ridicule someone.

Very sad.
