This is my first post here, I'm from Ontario, Canada in the Kawarthas, which is big boating country here. Anyways, I recently came in possession of a lightweight aluminum fishing boat with a 9.9 Johnson. It came with a modest trailer so I decided now was the time to get myself a boat. I knew of a Toth Marine Sport boat in the forest behind my property that was abandoned there and went ahead and dragged it out. It has no stringers or gunnals, and there are some rotten spots on the fibreglass. I plan on completely restoring this boat by spring 2011 or 2012. I have already hit a snag, though, as the motor I wanted to use, which is a 25 hp Gale (model no. 25D-21B, serial no. C374425), has had its head stolen and is now next to useless to me. So far I have the rack and pinion steering, and the fibreglass frame, which I am almost ready to start restoring.

Here are some photos of my shell:

The motor is most likely seized now.

Re: Toth Marine Ltd. TML-9 Sport Project

Just cleaned out the entire boat, and cut 3 rot spots out of the hull. Waiting for a line on some gelcoat so I can begin to patch the holes. Can anyone tell me about the process with painting over gelcoat? Is there a method that provides a long-lasting coat over gelcoat?

Thanks.

Holy cow! That thing is like a little powered kyak! Almost like a jetski you can sit in! I bet it is a ton of fun out on the water. How did a boat get into the woods behind your house?

Not sure how things work in Canada, but in the States, getting that thing registered and legal would most likely be a real pain with the DMV!

A guy contacted me from Toth Marine, and we spoke briefly. The shop producing these things is in Lakefield, which isn't too far away from where I'm living currently. He said there are thousands of boats (though he used the hyperbole "millions"). Shouldn't be a problem getting it registered.

Began patching the first hole. Taped down some wax paper and gelcoated from the outside in, using fiberglass after that. Is gelcoat supposed to be runny? Also, wax paper didn't work as well as I had hoped, what common plastic would work better?
