As mentioned, I'm new to all this so thanks in advance for bearing with me.

I have an older Mercury outboard motor which I'm trying to find a starter solenoid replacement for. The serial number doesn't seem to match any formats at which I'm seeing on the online lookup sites / guides.

It is 7205867. I've read that the Canadian version of the serial numbers match the format I have, but the only record I find that even comes close to matching mine dictates that it is Mercury 90 horsepower, however my outboard is a Mercury 70 horsepower (according to the badging).

Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I appreciate any help you can provide.

Edit: for what it's worth, this is the issue I'm having which someone mentioned I need a new senoid for ( unless I need a new starter altogether?) https://youtu.be/5kuI2r2FQpg

Wait, so I was lead to believe that my issue was with the starter solenoid, but the part you recommended doesn't appear to be a solenoid... Am I missing something here?

My understanding is on that motor the solenoid just gets the starter spinning.
I can see in your video the starter is spinning fine.
I'm guessing centrifugal force causes part 18-5656 to move up and engage the flywheel.
You could try taking yours apart and cleaning and lubing it and see what happens.

Ah... ok! Well, I honestly have no idea - I have no experience with these engines at all. I suppose I'll take your suggestion and see where it gets me, Thanks!
