Length of the wheelbase between your back wheel & the trailer axle makes a huge difference too. I'm pretty good backing my boat around, but when I towed a friend's popup recently I hade a hard time with it due to the wheelbase being a couple feet shorter. It really makes a difference - longer is easier & responds much better.

I have backed up many trailers over the years 53' enclosed trailers to 8' utilities. They all back the same just how quick they cut, you can adjust by turning the wheels. Main thing is till you are use to it go slow, ride the brake if you need to. Worse trailer I had to back up was a 1959 Apachie camper. lol

with a 14 foot boat that wieghs relitively nothing i wouldnt worry about parking brake never use mine for a 5000 boat 6200 on trailer. i doubt your 500 or so lbs boat will drag it in the drink even if you tried.

This is true,BUT it it makes you feel more confident fix the e-brake, carry wood blocks and scotch the truck, what ever makes YOU feel conferrable. Watch a bunch of videos, read everything, go to a boat ramp and watch people, maybe find a friend that has launched a boat and have them go along (even someone who hasn't launched a boat in several years can give helpful advise). It is a little intimidating launching the first couple time but soon it gets easier. I personally set the e brake on my truck and put it in 4 lo EVERY time I launch or retrieve. I've only NEEDED 4wd once (actually had to launch DEEP in the lake with a soft bottom), but BOTH make me feel better so I use them (having your piece of mind makes a launch easier also). IMHO unless it involves hard turns 4wd lo range makes backing easier (you go slower and don't have to brake as much).
