hey all
well Had to take powerhead off my 1978 80 hp merc
had hydro lock on cylinder 4. I’m glad it did actually because I found chunks of old pump in water ports and also had a hand full of sand I pulled out of water jacket ugggg what a mess. Any ways does anyone have torque specs and tightening sequence to put everything back together. Thanks

Both of those plates are torqued from the center out. So torque the very center bolts (#3 cylinder region) about 1/2 way then proceed to the next "line of" bolts up and torque them. Now torque the bolts below the ones you started with. Now repeat with the bolts above the last bolts torqued, and then below the last bolts torqued.

Repeat pattern until you have torqued all the bolts 1/2 way tight. You should finish on the bolts nearest the lower end cap.

Now repeat the sequence.

OK, scratch part of that. I was fixated on my inline 6 torque pattern. The proper place to start torquing an inline 4 is right between cylinders 2 and 3, and then work up and then down as I described.

Hydro-locked ------Meaning motor would not turn all the way ?-------Water may have gotten on bearings and that spells " death " for this motor.-----Checked lower unit gear oil ?

Hydro locked- had water in cylinder 4 so no motor was not turning completely
i have taken power head off and checked everything but not bearings I did order a complete gasket kit so I probably take head off and check
Had a lot of sand in powerhead and chunks of rubber so I think water filled up exhaust and got into cylinder 4 or maybe bad gaskets not sure been cleaning it out and sprayed some pb blaster in cylinders and on pistons no scoring on walls and rings not froze so I’m crossing my fingers hope the guy that I bought it from didn’t screw me
