Top of my transom is curved. Can I make the new one straight?

I just made a pattern for the new transom wood that is going in.

On my 1969 V-145, I see that the top of the stern has a "dip" shape to it.

Can I make the new one so it goes strait across?

The old transom had a lot of epoxy stuff just built up on the low points and the splash well that gos over it does not have this dip.

Before I took the boat apart I saw that there was a gap between this dip and spash well. The aluminum strip did not cover well at all.

Can I just make the new transom go straight across, fiberglass glass and 5200 all around the top before I re-install the splashwell?

Here is a photo showing the dip. You can see the tracing paper I am using for the transom pattern.

The only think to check is that the transom wil not be too high for the outboard. As long as the cavatation plate is even with the keel, it should be OK.

Looks like you're doing a great job!

Okay.

Thanks!

So far so good! :D

Putting new stringers in looks like a breeze compaired to replacing the transom!

Leaving the dip in the transom will retain the original "Bat Wing" look of the old transom :D

To clarify, my transom is not bowed. It is perfectly straight.

The top edge of the glass was made so it had that dip shape to it.
