I made my own, but my distance between mark A and mark B is 5 inches. My TDC Mark on my flywheel and pointer line up just like they should.
.
My thinking is my DIY TDC Tool works fine since all we're trying to do is find two reference points in the #1 pistons up travel and down travel. Then halfway between my two marks I make is True Top Dead Center.
.
Am I missing something?
Am I right?

I like that ! You can use the stick to barbecue shrimp while figuring out how to buy something for boat and not tell wife or justify it.
Me, wife did not like that , I still have my Starcraft :)
who needs a big house anyway ? seriously, years back I tried to find TDC with a screwdriver, got broken and stuck in block. That small stick will burn up and not cause engine failure.

I have used that method with automotive engines, but I figured the piston stop tool would be more precise for this outboard that likely has less tolerance.
