i have a 1968 Sea Star Falcon 14 footer. i am trying to get at the rotten transom wood. i removed the bumper and retainer but that sucker is stuck together tight! any advice on how to un-stick the cap from the inner hull? i am afraid i will crack it good if i apply too much pressure.

First , make sure you have ALL of the fasteners out, mine had one set of screws for the rub rail and another set of rivets for the cap. There is a good chance the joint is caulked, just run a scraper or putty knife between them to cut the caulk.

yeah, i found the second set of rivets and drilled them out. there is adhesive between the 2 pieces but it is old and hard. the connection between the two halves is almost a channel. there is a vertical surface then a horizontal surface and then another vertical surface inside the boat. i dont know how i am going to get to that caulk between the horizontal surfaces.

mine was actually fibreglassed together on the inside.

i took an angle grinder to it side on to seperate the two halves but did a bit of damage in the process but nothing that cant be fixed.
