Took shift rod completely off can't get is back

I took the shift rod nut completely​ off yes it was dumb. But I was wondering if any one knew how to get it back to normal. I have an 88 force 50hp motor.

No easy fix, the only way to reinstall is to take it apart.
You need to take the lower unit off.
​Take the upper off the lower and then you'll have access to the shift assy.
Look up the parts diagram and you'll see what bolts to remove.
