Todays the day!!!!!!!

Well folks, today is the day I quit smoking and to make matters worse, I am going on a strict diet as of today also. <br />Man I hope no one says anything out of the way to me for the next couple weeks.

spinner_bait nut...you going cold turkey or using the patch? Fellow I know used the patch and said it made the diet a lot easier. Don't know if does work or not. OBJ, I am going cold turkey. I have talked to several people in the stop smoking profession and a few of them have said that the patch or gum helps and I have had a few of them tell me that there is a lot of hipe over these products.<br />It is all in your head they say. If you want to quit you can, if you don't then it don't matter how much money you spend on patches and gum, it won't work and I can see their logic there.<br />I have no experience with either and know of no one that has to get a better perspective on this.

All the power to ya' SBN! I quit cold turkey so it can be done (third attempt). Think of it as not smoking just for today and then tomorrow think the same way and so on. It works. Watch out for the booze, it makes you weak! I had to stop drinking for a while to quit smoking 'cause every time I had a couple beers I'd start smoking again. You can do it.

spinner-they are right, you have got to WANT TO. i was a two pack a day for 10 years! 4th of July 12years ago i stopped cold. have not touched one sence. still dont want one.

Way to go Spinner.<br />All the power to you, you can do it!<br />Cold turkey is arguably the best way to go.<br />You just have to want to quit, more than you want<br />to smoke. Dont forget the best way to<br />end a habit, is to replace it with a new one.<br />30 days is usually the required time frame to<br />mentally change a habit. Go for it!

First off let me say, Sloopy, cold turkey means that you just throw them away and don't smoke anymore.<br />Now, admin5, thanks for the offer and I will be taking you up on the deal.<br />It has been a rough first day to say the least.<br />I have been keeping up with the replies, but to tell you the truth, my hands have been shaking to bad to try to type much.<br />OBJ, I will hold you to that.<br />And all the rest, thanks for the support. Hey there Spinner,<br /><br />Nothen But a thing my brother monk....<br /><br />I just quit 4 months ago and I am not hurten tooooo bad.<br /><br />I don't crave the smokes per-say, but the habit is hard to shake....Its kinda like a teddy bear or your old blanky.<br /><br />Thats what the sunflower seeds took the place of for me....now do we have a support group for sunflower seeds?<br /><br />you can do it....Ross J told me to keep telling myself "I don't smoke"....And when I realy was tempted to walk over to the ashtray and grab my wife's smokeing gun....That helped me say no.<br /><br />It does get easyer as time passes and I do think it has alot to do with your mindset when you go into it....a negitive outlook breeds a negitive outcome.<br /><br />Just post if you need us....<br /><br />pinklungswood

Spinner,<br /><br />I know some will disagree with me on this, but don't look at this thread for a while. Don't talk about it for a while. Don't focus on it for a while. The further you keep yourself from this subject and hearing certain words and conversation during a trying time like this the better. The further you are from being reminded of it the better. If anyone asks why you aren't partaking in your old habit tell them to shut up and not to mention it. Change up your daily schedule a bit if you can to distance yourself from old habits. Don't concentrate too much on the diet. Do one thing at a time. If anything EAT. Indulge in food during this period. For some people it helps. Not for all, but for some. Of course you will succeed and it only gets easier with every passing day. Everyone is rooting for you.
