To whom should I give this little motor ??

I have an '84 Johnson 2 hp long shaft motor that was used as a kicker on my Whaler Montauk by the previous owner. I've repowered with a 4 stroke and don't need a troller. The engine starts and runs well but is very touchy about the jet adjustments. It could probably use a carb overhaul. It has a new water pump.

I would like to give this motor to some young boater who would put her to good use and is not able to buy his/her own motor. Would do well as a sailboat aux., canoe pusher, skiff or small jonboat power or to run one of those little 2 person bass boats that I see running around in pickup beds all over the country.

I am in North-central Texas, but will send it where it will do the most good. Any nominations or applications??

JB

Great idea! Might I suggest a local scout camp or boys/girl camp.

Re: To whom should I give this little motor ??

I thank you all for your generous comments. This is small payback to the several sportsmen and boaters who took a fatherless adolescent under their wings over fifty years ago. They took me fishing, they took me hunting, they gave me an ancient (even then) Water Witch motor and taught me how to make it run. One of history's greatest gentlemen taught me how to shoot quail with his priceless Purdey 28 Guage double. Most of all, I guess, they gave me a sense of what a real gentleman is and what he owes his fellow humans. Many of you regulars fit that title. Maybe I can pass on a little of that.

Somewhere out there is a boy or girl that hangs around your shop, gets starry eyed around boats, has something that floats and dreams of having more power than oars for it. Let me know who (s)he is.

Fair sky and flat water.
JB

JB! You are a gem! In a crazy old world where people are killing each other every day and the human race gets greedier and nastier to each other ... if you're real lucky you may meet a real diamond and you my friend are a diamond! You have strengthened my belief that there has to be a reason for this crazy planet and if there were more like you then maybe just maybe?... thanks for the advice you have given me!

Cornwell,
I am in the market for a 2HP. I had a 2.5 but it was put out of commission by the man who was suppost to fix it. Let me know if you still have it, I would be willing to pay S&H.

Howdy, Fisherperson. Do you meet the description of one who, without help wouldn't have a motor? Email me at jbshideout@aol.com. Tell me what happened to your 2.5.

Tight lines.
JB

Hey JB..I wrote you back in the other topic regarding the new motor. I just wanted to say thanks for your help...I ordered one earlier and I am sure that it will be great. I'll think of you as I am pulling in a 35" German Brown !! Take care.

Your generosity and kindness are a great example of how outdoorsmen like to look out for others. I am an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 63 in Princeton,IL and we just purchased a boat for use with the powerboating merit badge. If you still have your 2hp motor it would be put to good use and very well cared for by all of the troop. If you don't have it any longer, thanks again for the act of kindness, and enjoy yourself on the water this summer.
Dan Smith
Assistant Scoutmaster
Troop 63
Princeton,IL

America is alive and well... as long as some of us remember where we came from!

Great post. Generous act! Maybe a few of the Scouts in Troop 63 will grow up with simular values. JB is to be commended on his thoughtfulness...

God bless!

Michael

------------------

Re: To whom should I give this little motor ??

Thank you, Little Bear. I am proud to be a naturalized Texican. I am humbled, however, by the outpouring of generous compliments from our fellow boaters. I didn't think it was such a big deal. I was simply following the examples set for me far better men than I.

Perhaps some of you out there will be inspired to take a few minutes or a few dollars to brighten the days of some less fortunate young person (or old person). The good feelings you get back are priceless.

Also: 12Footer is gonna take me fishing!!

Thank you all again for your kind compliments.
JB

Mr. Cornwell,
If you are ever in the Brownwood area let's go fishing. I often catch a heavy stringer of white bass, crappie, and hybrids at night on Lake Brownwood. Oh yeah I am an excellent fry cook. (ask my wife)
Sincerely,
Little Bear
