We have a 1994 70hp Force outboard that we have had since it was new, it's been diagnosed with a burnt cylinder. My husband and the mechanic say replace, I say rebuild? What do you think? <br />Is an unrepair 90hp Force worth anything?
Welcome to iboats.<br />As is, the motor will fetch $500-$800 if parted out on ebay.<br />If sold in one piece, you will get less.<br /><br />If you run this motor in saltwater, I say replace it.<br /><br />If it is a freshwater only motor, and you can get it done at a reasonable price, it might be worth rebuilding it.<br /><br />What was the cause of the blown engine? And how much internal damage was done?
Okay thanks guys. It is a salt water motor. Our son was using the boat at the time it broke. Although he'll claim differently we don't think our son mixed the gas and oil correctly. <br />Dang, those new motors are expensive... Thanks for you help.
Same thing happened to me on my 95 Force 70 last year on the last boat outing and right in the middle of the lake. A rebuilt PH (Power Head) will run you about $2000 if you DIY. You'll get a couple hundred back on the core depending on the condition of the PH and who you get it from. Some will say repower but look how long your last motor lasted. If I could get 12 years out of a Ford or Chevy, well you know the story!
