title # dont match moter

the title is a 1965 mercury 650..or 65hp...but it shows I.D. NUMBER<br />AND THE MOTER SHOWS A SERIAL #<br />AND THERE NOT THE SAME WHERE DO I FIND THE I.D. NUMBER ON THE MOTER ??ALL I CAN FIND IS THE SERIAL #..IAM LOST CAN ANY ONE HELP ME OUT ?

It's stolen! no just kiding. The tittle should have the serial # somewhere? In S.C. the ID is a sticker on the cover. Tim

For newer Mercs... there is a serial number and associated model number. Unfortunately I do not know how to get the numbers that far back. I'm not sure that the model number is the ID number...perhaps that ID number is assigned by the state registry?
