Just got home ... gonna hit the shower and bed ... been up since 2 this morn (got to bed around midnight). Darn wind ... the pager and sirens wouldn't quite going off ... had a tree through the roof, several trees across the road, poles down, people now without electricity till Saturday or later, a couple of brush and woods fires from the downed electrical lines, and a car fire (but the kicker was it was under the drive through roof at one of the local banks !). Locally winds were clocked in the upper 60mph range and not too far away they were recorded winds of 92mph. We just aren't too used to hurricane force winds and the results are about the same as 2 inches of snow down south!

Nite-nite!

Re: Tired tonight ...

Had some big wind here in NJ. I was home today and I heard what sounded like a jet taking off in my front yard, it was just the wind. Trees bending, leaves blowing around. Quite the day. At least the boats are ok, the tarps didn't rip or blow off.

I am impressed that you took the time to post before hitting the shower and the sack, Aspeck.

Sleep well. :)

Re: Tired tonight ...

I did, thanks JB ... only a couple of short calls to wake me in the middle of the night, things are quieting down here, now, and I am looking forward to a nice dinner out with my wife tonight and then a full night's sleep.

The fire at the drive thru was definitely unique! The first rig in was a brush truck and we wanted them to push the car out of the drive thru to make sure the building would not catch ... they were chicken! Better safe than sorry! HA.

We were busy and did not get to go on the call for the trailer roof that blew off "with entrapment." Didn't hear how that one came out.

One pole down near our assistant chief's house ... he came out of the house to see flames leaping about 60 feet in the air! There was a guy running to it with a fire extinguisher - this idiot didn't realize the downed wired were causing it! He had to be stopped or it would not have been pretty. Afterward he thanked us for stopping him ... realized he was not thinking and would have been fried.

By tomorrow afternoon they are saying everyone should have power back. We are fortunate that no one was seriously hurt during all of this.

Re: Tired tonight ...

It was blowing real good here yesterday (60kts+ gusts). We have a 3 blade, 20 ft diameter wind turbine mounted 3 stories up on the waterfront. It has a vibration alarm for out of balance conditions. Alarm was blaring so I ventured out for a look. Holding on tight so as not to become Mary Poppins, I made my way up to the tower. Visually everything looked okay and the turbine was spinning like it could power Disneyworld! On the way down I spotted the problem. A seagull was cut in two like a surgeon would be proud of!!! Like I said, those blades were spinning pretty good!!!

Re: Tired tonight ...

one wierd winter.
I'll back you on that one TD,

No winds, but total meltdown here, drive and yard are clear, 2 1/2 feet of snow is down to an inch or two around the boat to none on the walk.

Squirrels and birds came begging for handouts two by two, allowed a few farewell pics, and after bagging the catch took off in the direction of shiny clean boat.

I think I'll take the hint and get it ready to go, :D

Re: Tired tonight ...

Not quite as bad here in MD...lotta debris in the yard though.
When I was driving to work, I was wondering what it would be like on the water. Back in the '80's I was on sea trails aboard T-AGS 39. When leaving the Bay into the Atlantic the blow was a Beaufort #9. What a sight. The Bridge-Tunnel looked like a pier off in the distance with waves reaching the deck. Trawlers disappearing between the crests. What a ride!
I had bow watch the next day...let's talk cold.

Re: Tired tonight ...

Been real busy with damage to our stores. Finally got things caught up. Panels blown off HVAC units, trees pushed over into the drive thru's , signs blown out, (one lady got hit in the face with a piece of sign) and dealing with power outages as well. Driving my service van around wasn't too fun either.

A semi driver pulled his rig off the road at a Meijers stores parking lot. He got into his sleeper to get some sleep. A 67 mph gust came along and toppled his truck over. There were 2 other trucks on the road that got flipped over also. Also heard that it derailed a freight train too.

I'll second that motion about it being a very weird extreme winter,,,,,,,,,and still more to come.........Hope everyone is safe and secure...............SS
