I removed the 4 tires from my tandem trailer to clean/paint the rims. I have the trailer on blocks for the winter. I am storing the tires in my basement, I have them stacked (laying flat) on a concrete floor. Is this ok?

Re: Tire Storage

As long as they are indoors away from extreme heat of cold and inflated to the correct pressure, I do not see a problem.

Yep, agreed. To make an extra (not really needed) precaution you could place sheets of some kind between the tires (to avoid the rubber becoming sticky) and add some to the pressure.

After storage the tires will take a decrease in pressure better than an increase - and in case of a minor loss over time it might simply end at the right amount. Keep an eye on them during storage - if one happens to go flat it might crack the tire walls when you re-inflate :(

A rather new tire should cope easily anyway.

Re: Tire Storage

interesting... so what your saying is that tires need to be inflated when stored for long periods of time? i was told different, the shop where i bought my rims and tires along with others have said that if you store inflated it causes the tires to age quicker,(where you get those cracks on the rubber). did i get wrong info?

Re: Tire Storage

I was told not to lay them flat directly on concrete, put a piece of board under them. Supposedly the concrete will dry out the sidewalls?????

lol... old threads seem to be a trend here...... at least people search....
Since it has been dug up I'll add my .02...... If your tires are so old that adding air causes cracks they need replaced any way
