So I've done a "search" and I can't find what I'm looking for and I thought I
would create a thread hoping someone would post a link to a previous thread.

I want to take my 16' Riviera Tri-hull walk-through and convert it to a Center
Console. I need to replace the floor anyway, since there's a couple of soft
spots in the main traffic lane. And, since I'll have it torn down, I would much
rather have a CC (even the wife agrees). I figure why not go for it. Only one
tiny detail; I have no clue how to start or finish. I'm hoping that someone's
done this type of thing before (I'm almost sure of it) and they've posted a
thread detailing the saga, but I haven't found it yet.

So, not trying to be too lazy, but does anyone recall a thread of this sort and
if so, would you mine linking it? If not, how the heck am I gonna figure this
one out?

I love these rebuild threads as they give me the confidence to even attempt
a project like this, so to all who've contributed....THanks!:D

Re: Tips for converting tri-hull walk thru to CC

Hello Emoney..

Are you sure you want to do this ? I mean..dont lemme scare you .. but you do realize that your basically going to be scrapping/modding your boat for another ( that you could buy and have fun with now ? ).

Your going to be changing Everything on the thing .. Cables.. wires.. etc.. Your going to get mighty Glassy :) ..

Have you considered swap/trade for a CC .. like a Laguna or something ?

It can be done but Its going to take time and $$ .. hard work and forethought for safty in construction for your family..

hi bud....welcome to i boats.......

read the above post twice.

ill expand on what you will have to do to accomplish this.

AFTER the deck, most likely the stringers foam and possibly transom are replaced. then you have to start the cc conversion.....that means cutting away the two consoles, reinforcing the cap through out......building a stronger gunwhale from stem to stern (both sides) and then building your console.

after you are done.....you will have a boat that you stand behind a console and drive.....now....because of the tri hull design...you will feel every 6 inch chop thru your legs and back.....lets not talk about real waves.

im the kind of guy that will take a canoe and turn it into a 30 foot catamaran with sleeping berths......so i will never say you cant....or dont.....BUT....you will be taking a lot of time from your family......weight the cost.

if you decide to do this....we here that post on these forums will be excited to help you thru this and make it the best boat you can for you and your family.

in the mean time.....a guy by the name of jason j did a cc conversion.....the thread was called skanky beast.....it used to be the forums top tutorial on how to build a boat....im not sure if it is still on the forums.....try the completed projects forum.

cheers

Post picks, I wanna watch.

I've had similar thoughts. On my boat (15' tri hull) I think I would cut the cap off, glass in reinforcement for the gunnels, deck what I want decked, and build a small console with plywood.

I'll echo what's been said so far, for the most part.

This would be a cool project to watch. Like Oops, I'm a poster child for complete boat makeovers.. I'm about 2/3 done with mine (optimistically) after a year of work almost every week.

What you want can be done, but it's more work than you think, and even when you're done you won't have a "normal" center console boat... the tri hulls are really made for lakes and calm water, where most center consoles are deepwater fishing boats (from what I've seen). So consider the eventual product, examine how much time and money you have to spend, and then decide.

If you decide to go forward you'll have a one of a kind boat that's pretty close to exactly the way you want it. Nothing beats being able to tell people "I built that". Plus the rest of us here love to see projects like that happen.

Here's a suggestion: Maybe do the repairs to your current boat so they last a couple years and in the meantime get another boat to be your project... find a good CC to restore, or get another boat that strikes your fancy to work on. Do the work on that, then when it's ready sell the first one to recoup some cost, or pass it on to a family member or friend.

That way you can be on the water and having fun, with no pressure to finish your custom work by a deadline :)
