EST ignition. With engine running and warmed up installed jumper on distributor and shorted cutout switch. I did not notice a change in RPM. Set tIming 1degree BTDC. Removed jumper and the timing stayed the same. I don’t believe I am getting ignition timing to enter base mode. I crimped new bullet terminals on distributor, installed new distributor module, no joy. Idle Rpm was about 800 and steady. Why won’t ignition enter base mode? Is there a trick I’m missing? I’m performing this check in my driveway with digital gun.
Also I can’t set RPM with throttle as it shoots past 3000 when it gets to 2400 for the timing advance check. Help!

Welcome
Sounds like you did it correct. If you confirm it was done as posted, and distributor test correctly, then most likely need another module

When you say you shorted the cutout switch do you mean Connect to ground or supply 12 v to the module cutout switch lead? You need 12 v to get it into base mode.

Thank you. I’ll

I shorted the cutout switch to route voltage to the module. I verified voltage and continuity of the jumper on the connector with a Fluke multimeter. Not sure how sensitive that module is, I had 11.47 VDC. I’m thinking of purchasing an AC DELCO module. The one I replaced was Chinese.

The timing idle around btdc 8 deg ....800 rpm ....the gasoline is around 89 octane . so the digital module ac Delco is the china crap !
the RPM 2500/3000 RPM 24-32 degrees .. the gun timing

Yeah try a delco one.
as long as it is still advancing you can set it by total advance as a work around. Don’t recall what it is on your engine but if for example if it is 24 deg at 2800 rpm . With it not in base set the total when reving to 24 and let the base fall where it may
